The knee jerk reaction when someone asks if you want to walk the next day is strong - "No, I can't, I'm working and have an electrician in" (aka "I'm very busy, very important and people cannot function without me) - Fast forward a few minutes. "F*ck it. What time and where"...
About 4 years ago, I gave up my comfortable job of 8 years to become self employed. This would allow me flexibility to take a last minute adventure day and I'd bumble about Scotland in my campervan with my laptop being all creative, relaxed and bohemian. Sounds great eh? The only thing is, I can't remember if i have ever done that so when Jane asked me to go a ramble up Ben Donich, I did eventually jump at the chance! Workday cancelled and I'll show the sparky where the kettle is...
I climbed Ben Donich once a few years ago and I loved it, awarding it the title of 'My Favourite Wee Hill'. It is a bite sized corker of a corbett, full of character with fab views coming quickly over Loch Restil and 'The Rest and be Thankful' at Glen Croe...
Surrounding mountains, although can be seen from the carpark, get bigger are more awesome as you climb. It's great to see Beinn Narnain, Ben Arthur (The Cobbler), Beinn Ime and Beinn an Lochain from a different perspective and even better to say "done that, done that, done that" as you pivot near the trig!! At the summit, the views continue as Lochgoilhead comes into view and the Firth of Clyde opens wide.
So what are you waiting for? Go bunk off work and go climb that damn hill!
